Revitalising Depo Palasari as an Environmental Education Center

In addition to hauling trash, Depo Palasari, located in Sanur Village also has a composting business which has recently been revitalised since it stopped operations in 2010.

Following consultation meetings with the village of Sanur, Eco Sanur has decided to revitalise Depo Palasari into an environmental center. The first step is now to expand the compost process.

Eco Sanur's first step to revive the compost process is to repair machinery and build a suitable 'sieving' method for filtering the compost.

Open Windrow composting method - access to oxygen encourages faster breakdown of waste

Using the Open Windrow method has meant that Depo Palasari is able to produce up to 4 tons. The Windrow Method: An open system that with a cheap investment cost, is easy to do, and takes a shorter time than other composting methods. As this is process is working at a small capacity, human capacity is required with only the help of simple tools such as hoes, machetes etc.
